I am proud to finally introduce you all to our newly established company, Raw Knowledge, a specialist data provider and data consultant under the Industrial Thought group of companies.
Who is Raw Knowledge?
A few of you may already be familiar with myself and the Raw Knowledge team as our story began as part of investment tax specialists, Financial Software Ltd (FSL). It was our small but dedicated data team that helped provide access to quality excess reportable income (ERI) data to FSL’s CGiX customers as part of their Offshore Reporting Funds (ORF) solution.
We have been a vital and proud part of FSL’s data operations but as our team, customer base and capabilities expanded in recent years, our parent company, Industrial Thought Ltd (ITL), felt that the data operations should be given more space to grow. As a result, the data operations separated from FSL to form a new company that would develop these offerings and services further. This new structure gives FSL and Raw Knowledge the room to focus on what we do best and allowed us both to explore new avenues and markets. For us, it has also given us the space to begin the work on our broader, long-term mission to lead the data innovation on which the financial services industry of the future is built.
Raw Knowledge and the Industrial Thought group
Over the coming months, we will work in close collaboration with our parent company, ITL, and its technology incubation lab Thought Train to develop pioneering solutions for the financial services industry that unlock the full power of financial data. By doing so, we hope to help the industry become more agile, insightful and open. I look forward to sharing these developments with you in the future. In the meantime, I’d like to introduce Raw Knowledge’s initial, core offerings: our comprehensive ERI data solution and our bespoke data consultancy service.
Our core offerings and services
Our ERI data solution does the heavy lifting of gathering hard-to-find, complex offshore funds data so firms can secure a competitive advantage and more easily meet their clients’ regulatory needs. It provides firms with a full data set for ERI tax reporting, including fields rarely provided on a fund manager’s original documentation such as equalisation rates and the identification of asset allocations. And, unlike standard data vendors, works specifically on a given fund universe to ensure firms get data relevant to them, in a format they want.
Our ERI data solution is complemented by our bespoke data consultancy service which provides firms with a simple, comprehensive picture of the tax treatment for even the most complex of instruments. Whether it’s reporting or non-reporting funds, VCTs, equities or fixed income, Raw Knowledge can source the information a firm needs to help determine their clients’ tax liabilities. We obtain original source documentation from issuers and fund managers, as well as further information from HMRC, so that our data is up-to-date, traceable and verified.
